Once you've learned kana and picked up some vocabulary, a lot of people ask: can I start reading novels yet?

Pick something short

Short stories and slimmer books are easier to finish in one go. Finishing one book makes you want to read the next.

Pick something familiar

If you've read it in Chinese or seen the film, you can guess unfamiliar words from the story.

Don't look up every word

Get the gist first, then go back for the words that keep coming up. Keep a dictionary nearby, but don't let it interrupt the reading.

When you visit, tell us your level and we'll pick something off the shelf together.
